Book dedication examples for God

A dedication to God works best when it says, in your own words, what faith gave you while you wrote: strength, patience, and a reason to finish. Below are examples sorted by tone, for devotionals, memoirs, and fiction alike. Choose one to see it on the page, or write your own.

How do you write a dedication to God?

Say what your faith did for the book in your own words, the way you would say it in prayer. A short line of thanks is enough, and readers of faith-based books often find it moving. If you name a person alongside God, give each a clause so neither feels like an afterthought.

Can a novel or memoir be dedicated to God?

Yes. A dedication to God fits any book that faith carried you through, not only devotionals and Bible studies. Keep the tone of the dedication close to the tone of the book so readers aren’t surprised by it.

Where does the dedication go?

In a printed book, the dedication gets its own right-hand page after the copyright page, usually centered about a third of the way down. Some books share that page with the epigraph. In an ebook, it comes right after the copyright page.

How long should a dedication be?

Most are one or two lines. Anything longer usually belongs in the acknowledgments at the back, where you can thank everyone by name.

Questions

Should I include a scripture verse in my dedication?

You can, but many authors put a verse in the epigraph instead, on its own page after the dedication. If you quote a modern translation, check whether its publisher asks for a credit on the copyright page.

Is it “To God” or “For God”?

Both are common. “To the glory of God” has a formal, traditional sound, while “For God” feels closer and more personal.

Can I dedicate a book to more than one person?

Yes. Name them together, as in “For Maya and Leo,” or give each person a line. If the list grows past three or four names, move your thanks to the acknowledgments.

Do I have to include a dedication?

No. Many books have none. Leave it out if nobody comes to mind, because a forced dedication shows.

Should the dedication be in italics?

It’s common but not required. Most dedications are centered and set in italic or small type so they stand apart from the text.
